Nominations have opened for the 2027 King’s Award for Voluntary Service, with Worcestershire residents and organisations encouraged to recommend outstanding local volunteer groups before the December 1 deadline.
Nominations have opened for the 2027 King’s Award for Voluntary Service, with Worcestershire residents and organisations encouraged to recommend outstanding local volunteer groups before the December 1 deadline.
The award is the highest UK honour for voluntary groups and is often compared with an MBE for organisations. It recognises volunteers whose collective work makes a substantial and lasting contribution to their communities.
The Worcestershire Lieutenancy is asking residents, community leaders, councils, businesses and partner organisations to consider groups deserving national recognition. Local volunteering includes support for young people and vulnerable residents, environmental protection, heritage preservation and work bringing communities together.
Paul West, Deputy Lieutenant and chair of the Worcestershire King’s Award for Voluntary Service Committee, said volunteers contribute time, skills and energy to improving life across the county. He encouraged nominations for volunteer-led organisations whose achievements might otherwise receive little attention.
He said the award provided an opportunity to recognise the contribution of groups discovered through the annual nomination process.
Successful organisations receive a commemorative crystal and a certificate signed by the King. Their representatives are also invited to a Royal Garden Party. Award recipients are announced annually.
